accident in daly city. we'll have details coming up. >>> good morning, everyone. it's tuesday, december 11. i'm michelle griego. >> hi, everyone. i'm frank mallicoat. 5:01. we are on the scene of breaking news in the east bay at an apartment fire that started about an hour ago. cbs 5 reporter elissa harrington is in hayward getting the latest. >> reporter: that apartment completely destroyed and there was a mother who lived there with her young son. she told us that she thinks somebody threw something into her home and that's what caused it to set on fire. so arson investigators are on scene. they are trying to sort all of this out but we are on dixon street right by the bart station. this was a one-alarm fire but again it caused significant damage and firefighters say that that family won't be able to return home. nobody was hurt. pg&e crews also on scene securing some lines and we are still waiting to get some more information but as i said arson investigators are on scene. elissa harrington, cbs 5. >>> new this morning, a fire in east oakland is believed to have been started by squatter

, lawrence. we continue to follow our breaking traffic news out of daly city. live look overhead from chopper 5. earlier they were zooming in on the car that ran off the road. it is dark but a stretch of highway 35 right there by john daly boulevard where one lane of southbound 35 is closed. northbound traffic is open. i just saw a car zoom by but again this is a nasty accident. a lot of police on scene crews are working hard and a cable to get car out of the ditch. one person is in the hospital with serious injuries. let's go to our maps. we have been watching a couple of different accidents this morning. that's just one. this accident was cleared to the right shoulder. it is pretty busy in that spot but otherwise once you get past 580 at grant line, speeds improve in livermore and dublin interchange. southbound and northbound 101 past candlestick moves well toward sfo. eastbound 80 the nimitz no delay between the oakland coliseum and downtown. coming through marin county a live look a few slow sensors on southbound 101 but toward san francisco across the golden gate bridge, so far traffic i

, cate caugiran, cbs 5. >>> we now know it was an 11- year-old boy from daly city that is killed in a police pursuit in pasadena on christmas day. police and fbi agents were conducting a gang sweep when they started following a car that committed a traffic violation. the suspects took off and eventually hit a minivan carrying a family from daly city. an adult and 11-year-old were killed in the car. three others in the minivan were injured, as well. four suspects are arrested and face murder charges. >>> the search is on for suspects in a gang-related shooting in south san jose last night short live before 9 p.m. in the area off serenade and lullaby drives. officers safe the suspect started an altercation with the victim, shot him and then took off. the victim taken to the hospital, no word yet on his condition. >>> apparently the smell is what led to the discovery of a ghoulish plot. two people are under arrest now for what was found in the backyard of a home on warren avenue in vallejo. it was a badly decomposed body. richard romer of alameda died two years ago at the age of 56.

in oakland, i'm da lin, cbs 5. >> thank you. >>> an 11-year-old daly city boy is dead after a police chase in pasadena. joe vazquez on the accident and neighbors who are devastated by the news. joe. >> reporter: the victim, allen, is 11-year-old kendrick ing here with his family on 89th street in daly city. they are presumed still to be in southern california dealing with the aftermath of this horrible crash. the family was in southern california in pasadena on christmas day visiting relatives. as they were riding in a minivan police were chasing a suspect in an suv through the streets. the chase went a mile and less than a minute then the suspect vehicle failed to stop for a red light and smashed into the minivan. two cousins were killed including an 11-year-old in daly city. three others were badly hurt. found an example at macy's in daly city serramonte shopping center. >> all the last minute stuff i got but i a got a few to go. >> richard is last minute shopper. the stores in the mall have some kind of enticement like him. there are some offering discounts even up to 57% off but one store in the mall that offering full two days of shopping and sales is macy's. this is one of more of the 800 stores nationwide that is staying open a full 48 hours. the idea is to make sure that last minute shoppers can find a store open whatever the hour. it worries frank. >> i'm concerned about, who are they going to have come in at 3:00 in the morning and shop? >> some 57 macy's stores will stay open round the clock until christmas eve. down the peninsula in san mateo bridge point shopping center, toys 'r' us will stay open 24 hours until christmas eve. >> it's nice because i've had work all we will week so it's nice to be open 24 hours. i can get my gifts for my family. >> they say it's too late to shop on line because the gifts won't be delivered by christmas day. so a 24-hour store is a good idea.

that occurred early this morning on northbound interstate 280 in daly city. the 5:00 a.m. crash kept lanes shutdown for about three hours. one woman died at the scene. the chp says she was driving alone and apparently did not see an abandoned car. she slammed into it and was struck from behind by an suv. traffic came to a stand still while crews worked to cut the victim out of that wreckage. san francisco is dealing with dozens of toppled trees and flooding right now. crews have responded to at least 40 downed trees. we are told by city officials that none of the trees has hit any homes. also there have been 48 calls of flooding, one the northern police station at fill more and turke. and in san francisco a power pole has snapped in half in the sunset district at 39th and moraga street. a transformer also blew. nearly 8400 pg&e customers do not have power due to this incident. there are no reports of injuries. right now pg&e is dealing with many major power outages and numerous smaller problems throughout the bay area. take a look at some of the hotspots. daly city has 4200 customers in th

, the lower these get the clothes we would get to the dewpoint... 40's in fairfield. 40's in daly city but look at 45 degrees in daly city. 43 degrees inf daly city which is aimpacting the fog with the 43 reading of the dewpoint... we will see sunny skies tomorrow by 9:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. clearing. with a rapid clearing expected. less fog on the sunday and the same for monday. taking a look at the satellite and radar clear skies for the bay area. eyehole some high clouds but those are gone. we will see some chilly temperatures, overnight as i mentioned, 30's for the inland valleys. -- i can expect to see some high clouds. and fog perhaps just a patchy. 30's through napa, the peninsula and for the afternoon temperatures, low 60s for the south bay. 60s in cupertino, 60s in san jose and also for the inland valleys. 62 in concord, livermore, 61 in alameda. upper 50s and 60s along the coast. and for too much low 60s for the north bay. as we take a look at our extended forecast no rainfall expected. however, a chance of showers returns. >> coming up later in this broadcast with alicia... merr

daly city was killed in a police chase in pasadena. cbs 5 reporter joe vazquez went to the family's neighborhood. joe. >> reporter: you can see this apartment building behind me. this is where the ing family makes their home. they were in pasadena visiting relatives on christmas day. riding in a van, police were chasing a suspect through the streets. that suspect vehicle smashed into the van and killed two cousins including 11-year-old kendrick ing. let this is a photo according to kendrick's neighbor rita, she identified him from this facebook picture. she says the boy was always involved with sports and school and that his father was devoted to his children. the central bay stretching from daly city, san francisco, through oakland and walnut creek. we are seeing good rain coming down here. but otherwise, it has been fairly quiet. that's about to change. expect rain spreading throughout the bay area throughout the morning hours and then i think by the afternoon this cold front going to sag through and slide eastward and then looks like the skies will part a little bit maybe a couple of leftover showers and then we dry out. temperatures because of the subtropical moisture will be mild. 50s at the coast, mid-60s in the warmest spots inland. but this is likely it. i think this will be the last storm we see in quite some time. after this we start to dry out. this morning, very wet, making it very treacherous on the roads, gianna. >> it sure is. it is a very busy day for us in the traffic center. we are trying to get an update about 101 at silver, a traffic alert, accident blocking lanes. no word if it's out of lanes. so that traffic alert is still in effect. slow on 101. reports of a new accident north 101 ne

from the upper 60s this afternoon. 50s in the santa rosa, 54 degrees in daly city. it is still, 60s in oakland. as we go towards tomorrow we will see additional cooling for the afternoon with increasing cloud coverage of rainfall. for wednesday morning that storm will bring a blast of cold, arctic air. temperatures will only get into the fifties. thursday, another cool day with temperatures getting into the 30's. let us take a look at what we will see for the overnight hours. the satellite and kerstin writer showing clear skies. we will see the increasing cloud coverage as we see that the stormtracker 4. pressing to the south with the disturbance with it. that will bring rain tomorrow. by 8:00 p.m., rainfall but by 10, rainfall approaching the north bay. heavy rainfall. even of salt of the golden gate by 2:00, it could be south of the golden gate is a strong band. lingering showers for the wednesday commute and for the wednesday hours. as for temperatures? chilly. concord, fairfield, vallejo. all in the 30's. 40's for our bay shore. 44 in daly city and even 60s in the south bay. wit
